The course is held in Swedish or English. The course director is Annika Rejmer. Entry requirementsThe student must be registered as doctoral candidate in law. If special reasons exist, the board of exemption may grant exemption from the acceptance requirements. Course contentThe course focus on the use of social science research methodologies and social theory developed in the field of legal sociology. The course consist of two parts; one general and one specialized. In the general part of the course, the scientific discipline of social science will be analyzed. In the special part, doctoral candidates will apply social science methodologies on their own legal research subject and explain obtained results by social theory. In addition, the candidates will have the ability to apply relevant social science methodologies and social theories upon their legal research. TeachingThe general part of the course consist of one (or more) tutorial occasion(s) focusing on discussing the discipline; legal sociology, social science research methods, social theory and it's applicability in legal research. The special part of the course focus on, if and how legal sociology research can benefit the participating doctoral student’s research, such as applicable methodologies and theories and research strategies. It is obligatory for the doctoral student to participate in scheduled tutorial occasions. The course director is able to grant permission to derogate from the requirement of obligatory presence in the sessions. ExaminationThe examination consists in the writing and presenting of a paper. The grades are Pass (G) or Fail (U). To pass the course it is necessary to complete all obligatory parts of the course. In special situations, the examination may be in a different form, e.g. an oral exam. For students who fail, opportunities for re-examination are provided. Essays must be the individual work of the student. When plagiarism in the writing of essays is proven, disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the Uppsala University rules.
