Justice Accused: traditions and approaches in critical legal scholarship
Lund University
This is an invitation to participate in the doctoral course Justice Accused: traditions and approaches in critical legal scholarship.
For the purpose of this course, critical legal scholarship refers to research directions that are interested in the role of law and jurisprudence in at the same time creating and combating inequalities, injustices, and oppression.
The course has three themes: gender, the economy, and colonialism. Each of the three corresponds to a critical jurisprudential tradition that places that specific aspect in the foreground of its “justice accused”. In each case, we return to how political action is seen, how the state is approached, and the view on the (in)determinacy of law. Furthermore, by building bridges between the three themes, we strive to offer frameworks for thinking intersectionally about how inequalities, injustices and oppression reinforce each other.
As for practicalities:
On September 1st, a reading list will be distributed.
We meet on October 23 and 24 for the course meeting in Lund.
The time in between is meant for reading and preparation.
In addition to active participation in the seminar on October 23 and 24, we will ask you to keep a course diary where you make notes on your progress in working with the course material. We are not asking for anything other than very short personal annotations or reflections that can be used to inform our discussions. These course diaries will be shared with us and with other course participants. We will figure out a workable online (but closed) solution for doing this and share that with you also on September 1.
The date for registration is 15 august but feel free to sign up already now by emailing markus.gunneflo@jur.lu.se. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
